Rebounding: Good for the Lymphatic System

04/20/2016 By Lindsey 5 Comments

rebounding

After dealing with years of swelling and edema in my legs I was diagnosed by a naturopath with sever liver damage from medications I was prescribed as a child, and a poorly functioning lymphatic system. When he recommend the rebounder I thought he was weird, but I tried it anyways and within 15 minutes of bouncing on the rebounder all the swelling in my legs was gone! I absolutely love my tiny trampoline and bounce on business calls, watching TV and hanging out. The entire body benefits from this fun and simple detox!

The Benefits of Rebounding – Full Body Detox

The lymphatic system is the metabolic home of our body, it bathes every cell, carrying nutrients to the cell and waste products away. The lymphatic system does not have its own pump, it has no muscle to move the fluid around through its lymph vessels. Lymphatic flow requires muscular contraction from exercise and movement, gravitational pressure, and internal massage to the valves of lymph ducts.

Without adequate movement, the cells are left stewing in their own waste products and starving for nutrients, a situation that contributes to arthritis, cancer and other degenerative diseases. The rebounding motion stimulates all internal organs, and is by far the most effective movement therapy for increasing lymphatic flow and draining toxins from the body.

The G-force during rebounding results in the immune cells being up to five times more active in eating viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells. Rebounding reduces body fat, firms and tones muscles, increases bone density, increases balance, strengthens the heart, and rejuvenates your body.

Increase Bone Density and Muscle tone
Rebounding also offers joint-friendly exercise without the impact of exercising on hard surfaces. By working against constant gravitational pressure while bouncing, you resist Earth’s pull. Your resistance is subtle, but it builds cellular strength.

Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite is frequently caused by stagnant accumulation of toxins due to a poorly functioning lymphatic system. Supporting lymphatic flow in the body these toxins are broken down and flushed out of the body, reducing or removing cellulite all together.

Fun Fat-loss
I’ve never believed fitness should be a dogmatic ritual of punishment to create strength and agility for our body. I believe when we operate more like children with play our bodies maintain naturally (like we were created to).

Support the cardiovascular system
The benefits of rebounding include the cardiovascular system. Just as rebounding supports lymphatic circulation, it supports the circulation of blood. Rebounding decreases blood pooling in veins to improve chronic edema and rebounding can even lower blood pressure by aiding blood circulation.

Improve the endocrine and immune system
Rebounding not only removed excess toxins but aid in balancing hormones for a healthy endocrine system, improving the immune system by increasing the action of red bone marrow and supports tissue repair.

Full body Detox
The lymphatic system is the metabolic garbage can of the body. It rids us of toxins such as dead and cancerous cells, nitrogenous wastes, infectious viruses, heavy metals, and other assorted junk cast off by the cells. The rebounder stimulation turns on the garbage disposal and forces the lymphatic fluid to move and drain away these potential poisons.

How to Start Rebounding Today

What you need
Any trampoline will do. You can pick one up from your local sporting goods store, Craigslist local, or have it delivered from Amazon.

What to wear
They recommend wearing loose fitting workout clothes, but personally I jump in whatever I happen to be wearing. I rebound in jeans, skirts, a bathing suit. It’s really about what you feel comfortable it.

What to do
Tailor your rebounding session to yourself, but it is recommended to rebound for at least 15 minutes several times a day. The most important element —> you are rebounding, not jumping! You’re feet should not leave the trampoline, the tiny muscles that are activating your lymphatic glands are located in your upper calves behind your knees and the tiny movement of bouncing gently up and down has a greater impact then actually jumping higher. (I rebound while on business calls, watching TV, or just hanging out with my family, hence the location I choose to keep it). Don’t rebound right after eating or drinking.

Hi Lindsey, would you recommend rebounding while nursing? I know you mentioned doing it while pregnant.

      Hello Aurelie,

It’s totally safe to do while nursing, obviously not while baby is attached 😉 but try it for yourself and listen to your body.

I’ve used a rebounder following videos (Tracy Anderson primarily) but those have me definitely jumping up and down quite a bit – so perhaps those should be referred to as trampoline workouts. Do you have any recommendations for videos that demonstrate rebounding while pregnant? Thanks!

      Hello Kelly,

I don’t know of any such video. It really is simple. You shouldn’t need a video. Just tiny bounces. Especially while pregnant listen to your body, jumping uses core muscles, and while pregnant you want to relax your core so you definitely don’t want to be aggressively jumping. Just easy bounces.
